Winter Series Handicap Race 6 - 18th October 2026
Handicap Race Six brought the winter series to a close.
The day started with a strong cool Easterly wind touching 10 – 12 knots. The wind strength dropped shortly after the start of racing, then towards the end of racing the wind swung to the Southeast bringing a few big gusts which made racing quite interesting. The Eastly wind allowed for two parallel up/downwind courses to be laid out into the Marina basin.
Although many of our usual IOM sailors where away at another event, we fielded eight IOMs. The gusty conditions made the racing more challenging than usual, however, allowed for three lap races.
Peter H. was welcomed back after a short illness kept him away from sailing, but he did manage to build a new rescue craft while convalescing. After explaining its use, he went on to take first place. Well done Peter and welcome back!
In the DF65 heats Bob G. worked his way up from the back of the pack playing the wind shifts to take first place.
As usual many walkers stopped to chat and watch the action. One runner even stopped to ask to have her photo taken!
Sunday was a magic day for racing on the Marina, thanks again to the officers and volunteers who help put another great event together.
Reminder - JL. Sullivan/PG Kampe Trophy
Next Sunday 25th Oct, we will hold the JL. Sullivan/PG Kampe Trophy event complete with a BBQ.
