2026 New Year’s Trophy - Handicap Race 3 25th Jan 2026
Despite a record-breaking heat wave, twenty-one competitors rolled up to race in the 2026 New Year’s IOM and DF65 fleet trophies.
A light gusty Northly 10 km/hr breeze helped reduce the temperature and make the “heats” quite bearable. The long “Australia Day” weekend and adverse heat kept the numbers of sectators down this week, although Joan Piece MP did stop to say hello.
As always, the racing was close and leads lost and won in the shifty winds.
Unfortunately, we had an incident this morning, the bottom of the steps where we launch can be very slippery. Sadly, one of our guys lost their footing and fell onto the rocks causing cuts and abrasions to his legs and hand and the end of his racing today.
The BBQ was well attended after racing thanks to Peter’s excellent cooking. Both IOM and DF65 “New Year” trophies were presented to this year’s winners.
Once again, many thanks to the officers and volunteers who together ran a fantastic morning on the water.
