Fathers’ Day Scratch Race 5 6th September 2026

We enjoyed a very warm spring morning and, despite it being Father’s Day, had a strong turnout of 14 IOMs and 10 DF65s on the water. The northerly wind provided ideal conditions for an upwind / downwind course. Although the low tide limited the course area, the sailors’ excellent sportsmanship (and lady) allowed for plenty of good natured crossing between yachts and fleets.

Bob tried out his weather buoy project during the morning. The logs showed the wind shifting from the northwest to a more north to north eastly direction as the racing progressed. The wind increased from 5 km/h and settled at around 10–12 km/h (about 6 knots), with gusts reaching 19 km/h (10 knots) towards the end of play.

In the DF65 fleet, Grant once again demonstrated his skill, winning by a wide margin. The IOM fleet followed a similar pattern, with Garth finishing as the clear winner.

A big thank you, once again, to everyone involved in making this another wonderful day for racing.

Happy Father’s Day!
