DF65 Sovereign Cup 24th June 2025

The Sovereign Cup wraps up the WMRMYC’s “beginners to winners” (B2W) talks with a fun-filled flurry at the end of autumn. This lively practice regatta is where all the wisdom of the last ten weeks gets its real-world test—sometimes with surprising results!

Race day brought breezes that were more gentle than wild, making for plenty of playful tacking and the occasional burst of hope when a gust rolled through. Sailors danced with the shifting winds, sometimes catching a lucky break and sometimes just a light patch.

By the final bell, Harold sailed ahead to victory, while the rest of the fleet battled it out in a photo finish for the remaining spots—so close you’d think they’d planned it. The peaceful vibe was only briefly interrupted by an outraged goose on a mission to keep the resident ducks in line—clearly, some birds take regattas very seriously!

And what better way to end the day than with a hearty meal at the Redlands Sports Club, swapping stories and laughter about near-misses and not-so-near-misses. Big thanks to Russell and Don for pulling off another memorable event (and to the weather for behaving). What a fantastic day—here’s to many more with good friends, lots of laughs, and maybe just a smidge more wind!
