Muir Marine 1650 Fun Day Regatta - March 2024

Yes, a Funday indeed. Helped by the challenging weather conditions and the temperamental buoybots.

We rigged up in fine weather and selected the 7 x teams on merit.

Teams were IOM and DF65

  • Tony Grey and Paul Pearson

  • John McLachlan and Bob Good

  • Andrew R Wilson and Col Dunstan

  • Noel Eather and David Kerr

  • Stephen Elkington and Marcel Koch

  • Ian Kennedy and Mark Hardwick

  • Peter Kampe and Slab Kirkwood

As we were about to start the first race, the clouds opened up and the rain set in. Not to be deterred we lit the BBQ and with the help of a few experts the sausage sizzle was enjoyed by all. Nothing better than a sausage (or 3, hey Kampey),bread and onions for morning tea.

The rain cleared and the wind increased to a moderate south easter. (B rig for IOM and A rig for Df65). Well done to Noel and Slab who raced well with overpowered rigs.

Thanks to Don who acted as race officer (or was there more than one). Don and Andrew and Peter each set a different course so we had the opportunity to sail our preferred course. Very novel.

The buoybots must have had some "contaminated" volts during their last charge. They moved around a little so dodging all the boats and moving marks made for great entertainment. Andrew has recommended the upgrade to the BB aerials which will provide greater stability. Good suggestion!!

A terrific event . Everyone left smiling.

Congratulations to the winning teams. (results attached). The results were very close ( kudos to the team selector). John "bagged" the choice bottle of red wine.

Next Muir Marine 1650 Funday is Sunday 13th of October. Put it in your calendar.
