Winter Series Scratch R5 - 3 September 2023

"Fabulous racing in the harbour last Sunday. Eighteen boats on the water - 10 x IOM and 8 x Df65.Terrific turnout given it was Father's Day

In the IOM fleet we had a visitor, Graham Cowling, from PRSC. Visitors are always welcome.

The weather was perfect, consistent light easterly winds, sunny skies - great to be alive. And the friendly sailing, and banter, and camaraderie was a treat to behold.

Racing with 2 separate fleets on the water is a hoot. Peter and Don set challenging courses.

Great competitive sailing in both fleets. IOM had 5 different winners and 8 skippers with a least one podium. Our visitor, Graham, sailed well in the tricky harbour conditions finishing second on a count back from Peter and Ian came in third.

DF65 had 3 different winners and 8 skippers with at least one podium.

Russell got the chocolates with a lot of lucky wind shifts and surviving some very colourful use of the rules by Don. Noel got his boat working well later in the morning and finished third overall.

Put these upcoming events in your diary:

  • September 17th Rd 5 of Handicap Winter Series

  • September 24th Handicap Trophies Galore - JL Sullivan IOM Trophy and PG Kampe DF65 Trophy

  • October 1st Rd 6 of Scratch Winter Series. Plus "Have a Go Sunday" follows where people are invited to have a try at RC sailing.

  • October 8th 1650 Fun Day. Relay racing at its' best. Bottles of wine for the winners.

Oh yes, hot off the press. Our club champion Andrew "BuoyBot" Wilson finished 4th in Victorian IOM championships. Great effort.

See you on the water.

Cheers, Russell
