Winter Handicap Series R6
Sunday 17th Oct. 2021.
Venue---Manly Harbour.
Conditions looked good for the days sailing. The light[2-4kn] breeze was mostly from the NE and the tide was ebbing. Unfortunately the strong westerly which prevailed the previous day had resulted in some debris, mainly leaves, in the course area.
The Sailing Committee settled on a windward and return course of two laps with the windward mark set in the main chanel. During the course of the morning, the wind direction varied, basically turning more northerly. This however was easily accommodated and new locations established for the start line and windward marks by manoeuvring the club's Robuoys. Russell and Peter provided some light entertainment for the group while relocating the buoys. Still, repositioning the Robuoys is a lot easier, more accurate and quicker than a member trying to understand skippers shouting instructions from the shore.
Racing got underway at 9.30 and because of the favourable wind conditions, twelve races were run. Bruce acted as recorder, [and photographer].
An interesting aspect of the handicapping was that, towards the end of the racing the boats were basically in two groups, those on 10sec. and the rest on 20. This is reflected in the results. One point separates each of the first four boats.
Most boats experienced debris on their keel in at least one race. Unfortunately, Eddie and Russell's boats developed problems and had to retire.
Russell and Peter addressed the group before the start of racing and reinforced the conditions of our club's tenure at the marina and our very public exposure.
